Polestar 2 recently completed the battery of safety tests that comprise the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) and emerged with a five-star safety rating, the highest possible. And as much as it pained us to see our all-electric fastback be intentionally crashed, there’s no more thorough test of a car’s safety in all aspects than the Euro NCAP.
The Euro NCAP is an independent consumer car safety organisation. It is designed to put a vehicle through its paces, with assistance features impartially tried and tested, so that consumers can make informed choices. From a series of vehicle tests, evaluating crash performance in real-life accident scenarios, the safety rating is determined.
The number of stars does not only reflect how well the vehicle performed in the tests, but also whether the tested model's safety equipment is readily available to all European customers. According to Euro NCAP, a five-star safety rating translates to an "overall excellent performance in crash protection and well equipped with comprehensive and robust crash avoidance technology."
