As far as symbols go, a steering wheel is quite potent. Control, determination, freedom, a steering wheel can represent all of these things. A golden steering wheel, however, represents only one thing: the best vehicle in a given category. And Polestar 2 is one of those vehicles.
Polestar 2 has just been awarded the 2020 Golden Steering Wheel (“Goldenes Lenkrad”) award in the medium-sized SUV category. The award, established by German car magazine Auto Bild and national newspaper Bild am Sonntag, asks readers to vote on the best cars of the year. Finalists in each of the eight classes are then evaluated by a jury consisting of automotive journalists, celebrities, car enthusiasts, and racing drivers. The only fully electric model to advance to the finals in this category, Polestar 2 ensured a victory through its design and unparalleled driver experience. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath accepted the award at Polestar HQ in Gothenburg, remarking that “we’re particularly proud that Polestar 2 convinces critical industry experts as well as readers.”
This is the second award that Polestar 2 has received in Germany, getting the title of “German Car of the Year” (GCOTY) in the luxury category just a few weeks previously. Its hybrid performance sibling also had a strong showing: Polestar 1 placed in the top three in the sports car category.
A golden steering wheel is a powerful symbol indeed. And now, it’s not just those with the Performance pack that can claim they have gold in their Polestar 2.
Everything we produce today has an environmental footprint. EVs are no exception. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Over time we can change how cars are made. And you can influence that progress. Because what you choose to buy is what the industry becomes. To enable us all to choose the greenest path, we all need to understand the scope of that footprint.
