Polestar core is all about delivering safe, scalable, and robust systems to enable services and technologies for an intelligent vehicle. The Core System is the heart and the brain of the vehicle that interface to core system components such as central electronic modules, I/O controllers and gateways to deliver complex vehicle functions.

About The Role

Our mission is to deliver a class leading E/E platform, with an extensive feature set, offering Pure, Progressive, Performance, to provide a Customer Experience that exceeds their expectations. As a Systems Engineer, you will support the Principal Engineer to ensure that the Core System and components can perform and support the other units within R&D to deliver this mission.

The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of core system components into vehicle programmes. You will work cross functionally to ensure that valid system content is specified, manage specific elements of the supplier delivery against this specification and arrange verification activity to support the vehicle program which meets the programme requirements for quality, cost and time. You will also work as part of a cross functional team of engineers to define, design and deliver components which meet the vehicle and system functional targets.

  • You will lead technical discussions with suppliers, internal cross-functional teams, and our partner OEMs for the design and integration of donor, modified and new technologies.
  • You will be responsible for producing and maintain engineering documentation as part of the vehicle development process, including DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), DVP (Design Verification Plans), Engineering Release, Issue Resolution, and Sign-Off.
  • You will support component packaging activities and reviews, working closely with our Vehicle Integration and Electrical CAD Integration teams.
  • You will lead and co-ordinate design reviews, calibration, verification & validation, and certification activities throughout the development lifecycle.
  • You will produce commodity timing plans to support high level vehicle development milestones.
  • Release responsible for Core System electronics components on the BoM. Ensure that parts are correctly structured on the BoM and strive to achieve cost and weight targets and delivery timing to support vehicle build phases.

As the Polestar Core Group is expanding, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a cross functional team to define, design, develop and implement new vehicle capabilities within the group. Your systems engineering skillset will be of great importance.

Mandatory skills

  • Experience in end-to-end automotive ECU delivery e.g., body controllers, communication gateways, telematics, domain controllers, cockpit controllers.
  • Experience with automotive product development process(es).
  • Experience in requirements elicitation and management for owned and interfacing components and systems.
  • Practical experience with vehicle network architectures CAN, LIN, (Ethernet beneficial).
  • Experience in leading the test and validation activities using industry standard tools e.g., CANalyzer, CANoe.
  • Understanding of analysis methods including Functional Safety, Cyber Security and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

Desirable skills

  • Software communications development experience.
  • Experience in test and validation activities including benchmarking.
  • Use of systems or modelling languages and tools (e.g. SysML, UML, Enterprise Architect, IBM Rhapsody).

Additional Skills

  • Experience with system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma or similar framework.
  • Practical experience using PLM systems (Teamcenter) and CAD packages like CATIA (optional) and Vis Mock-up (preferred).

You have an Electrical, Electronic, Systems, Electro-mechanical, Automotive, or similar engineering degree. Other recognized engineering qualifications combined with relevant significant experience may be considered.
