Principal Engineer – Driveline, Wheels & Tyres

The Role

  • Lead the design, development & delivery of the Driveline Systems content within the Chassis Systems Function Group for multiple vehicle programmes
  • Take ownership for the Electric Drive Unit (EDU) installation, driveshafts, hubs, wheels & tyres
  • Manage and develop the Driveline Systems team including strategic development, resource planning, recruitment & performance development

Main Responsibilities

  • Define the Driveline Systems strategy and architecture of the products
  • Provide technical leadership of the Driveline Systems design and development
  • Lead the Driveline Systems team in all aspects of programme delivery & planning including system design, target setting, specification, DFMEA, development, verification & launch
  • Recruit, manage and develop (guide & coach) the Driveline Systems team
  • To represent the Chassis Systems Function Group as a credible authority on vehicle Driveline Systems design and development
  • To translate programme deliverables into a successful plan of work for the team, to deliver within the programme budget and timescale
  • To lead the generation of system targets and the adoption/creation of applicable test, development and design standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure that the HW content & design enables system & vehicle level attribute targets to be met
  • Work closely with the Principal Platform Lead to agree resource allocation for each programme
  • Ownership of the Driveline Systems bill of materials & management of the content to meet mass, cost & investment targets
  • Works seamlessly across the teams to ensure a collaborative approach is applied to the delivery of the project(s)

The Person

  • Ideally degree qualified with at least 10yrs directly relevant technical & leadership experience
  • Should have detailed understanding of the requirements for development of Driveline Systems, i.e. wheels & tyres, hubs & driveshafts, EDU mounting systems
  • Technical and personal credibility, working effectively with other functional teams and business functions
  • Strong leader with the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve the best possible results
  • Can operate at a strategic level whilst able to resolve more detailed / technical issues
  • Good commercial awareness with pragmatic approach to product development that suits the size of our organisation
  • Ability to prioritise workload (including that of the team) & manage external inputs/requests
  • Able to nurture a strong, inclusive teamwork ethic
