Project Engineer - Chassis Systems

The Role

  • Own the development of the Chassis content through the concept phase to ensure it has entitlement to meet all programme specific targets including functional performance, quality, cost, mass, timing and sustainability
  • Create and maintain the working project documents for the Chassis content of a programme during concept phase
  • Take a subset of the Chassis concept designs forward, owning and delivering these into volume production


Main Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain Chassis system and component targets for all Chassis systems on a given project with the support of the Chassis R&D team
  • Engage with stakeholders such as Vehicle Dynamics and Vehicle Integration to ensure their attribute requirements are captured
  • Create and maintain the initial Chassis Bill of Materials and business case
  • Develop the Chassis engineering plan for the project ensuring that it captures stakeholder / customer needs
  • Negotiate with stakeholders such as Purchasing and Manufacturing to ensure their requirements are captured
  • Structured assessment of design solutions taking all stakeholder requirements into consideration
  • Provide recommendations on design solutions with supporting data where required
  • Create and maintain Engineering Specifications & Statements of Work for Chassis systems and components
  • Develop the Chassis design concepts and requirements in partnership with prospective suppliers


The Person

  • Experience of working on one or more vehicle Chassis systems for passenger cars
  • Have a clear understanding of Chassis component & system attributes as well as manufacturing / service requirements
  • Strong team player who can work effectively with other functional teams and business functions to achieve the best possible results for the product / programme
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise workload & manage external inputs / requests without supervision
  • Proactive in identifying solutions and able to balance views and stakeholders to generate recommendations
  • Genuine interest in making efficient, sustainable products
  • Willing to take responsibility and make decisions based on best judgement where data is not available
