Due to aggressive growth plans Polestar is currently looking to recruit a Project Engineer for our interiors function.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Delivery of components from concept through to production.
  • Project scoping at concept stage.
  • Development of Technical Specifications and Targets (system level cascaded to component) in line with recognised benchmark vehicles.
  • Generation of system specifications, process documentation, Design Rules, Manuals and Architypes.
  • Support RFI and RFQ process with purchasing including generation of related engineering documentation.
  • Development of best in class and best practise Design & Engineering standards and procedures to support Polestar’s Forward Model Quality aspirations.
  • Ensure legal compliance, in coordination with suppliers and Legislation and Homologation teams, for all systems for all regions where the vehicles are to be delivered.
  • System Integration of Cabin Trim into the full vehicle environment.
  • System validation.
  • Support physical testing when required. Component / Sub-system / System Crash.
  • Create design proposals & concepts, and to participate in decisions regarding engineering changes and design direction.
  • Coordination of all cross functional inputs/outputs for Styling, Package, Vehicle Integration, CAE, Test, Manufacturing, Service, Quality and Safety.
  • Incorporating DFM, DFA back into 3D design.
  • Be involved with all aspects of Interior systems design and development, from concept to Launch, as part of the Body Interiors Team.
  • Lead System level DFMEA, DVP creation and ongoing reviews.
  • Interface for all other Systems groups (i.e. Chassis, Powertrain, Electrical, Body Structure, Exteriors, Closures).
  • Ensure that agreed deliverables are completed meeting cost, timing, quality, specifications and targets - QCD.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the BOM through Design work (cost/weight tracking).
  • Support development of FMEAs to progress the Design & manufacture of our vehicles
  • Attend design reviews and support package and vehicle integration meetings as required.

Who are you?

We are looking for a driven, passionate, and experienced Project Engineer to join our interior trim team at Polestar UK and play a key role in the future of electric mobility.

Technical items

  • Proven ability within an automotive engineering background with 3 years of experience of successfully delivering projects in an OEM or Tier 1 capacity with responsibility of Cockpit and Cabin Trim.
  • Knowledge, and an understanding of, systems engineering and system development process methodology.
  • Understanding of vehicle packaging and occupant ergonomics
  • Experience with running a project using industry standard PLM/PDM & CAD systems.
  • Knowledge of Plastic moulding, Soft trim technologies and joining methods would be advantageous
  • Experience with 1st Tier Design and Manufacturer of Cockpit and Cabin Trim, areas including Console, Doors, Headliner/Pillar Trims/Carpets/Loadspace.
  • High level of experience with OEM for Cockpit and Cabin Trim.
  • Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP or similar framework (FMEA, quality planning, PPAP etc.)

Personal skills

  • Customer focused.
  • Able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
  • Experienced in the management of Chinese suppliers and Chinese manufacture / assembly of Cabin Trim components helpful.
  • Experience of business travel in EU and China, but not critical to role.
  • Work with Designers & Engineers in same function group and other function groups
  • Ability to plan and deliver projects within budget and within the scoped time.
  • Ability to work in a team with a mix of experienced designer/engineers and junior designer/engineers, good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Innovative approach to management and team building.
  • Drive and commitment to deliver technically challenging projects.
  • Ability to work proactively with minimal support using a logical approach in an environment with minimal documented processes.
