Due to aggressive growth plans Polestar is currently looking to recruit a polymer focused Materials Engineer as part of the Interiors Advanced Engineering Team.


The person:

  • You have a deep understanding of materials and their chemistry, with a working understanding of how to develop and improve material attributes and properties. Experience in Polymer engineering preferred.
  • You have developed new materials for the Automotive (or similar industries) Industry before and understand the high demands in Vehicle Engineering.
  • You have experience in working with sustainability teams and have a working understanding of Life Cycle Analyses
  • You have a proven ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your own workload


The Role:

  • Working with the wider Advanced Engineering community looking at new material opportunities to improve our performance and sustainability attributes, with a specific focus on polymers.
  • Collaborating with supplier partners and research institutes to identify opportunities and create plans to develop new material advancements in reach of the Polestar goal of climate neutrality.
  • Undertake studies of existing materials within Polestar vehicles and create and roll out plans to reduce the carbon footprint of our existing vehicles.
  • Support the program Engineering teams with issues found in testing and the field related to material selection.
  • Provide education on materials Engineering to the wider Engineering team ensuring we are constantly educating and up-skilling the Interiors Engineering team.
  • Willingness to take “project lead” role for polymer based Advanced Engineering projects.
  • Report out to management on the progress of each of the live projects on a regular basis.


Minimum Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years working in Automotive Industry or similar field
  • Direct validation and development experience of automotive grade (or similar) polymers
  • A materials science/Engineering degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal & organisational skills, with good attention to detail
  • Able to work in start-up environment


Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in the field of materials research at an institute or material supplier
  • Experience developing materials at an Automotive manufacturer
  • Direct LCA analysis experience
