Polestar is the independent electric performance car brand founded by Volvo Cars and Geely Holding. Operating as a start-up, but with the benefits of experience and expertise provided by its established founding companies, Polestar is a dynamic, exciting and rapidly expanding brand. Polestar’s first two products – the electric performance hybrid Polestar 1 and the electric performance fastback Polestar 2 – have been recognised both by the world’s press and customers to be outstanding vehicles. They are currently marketed in ten global markets across China, Europe and North America.
As the brand now begins to embark on its next phase, new global markets demand an expansion of the business function to ensure a successful launch in new markets.
The launch of new markets will be coordinated centrally. The Global PR manager (New Markets) will report to and support the central global team. The role is based at Polestar’s global headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Develop and maintain the awareness, consideration and positive perception of the Polestar brand, as well as defend its corporate reputation, with journalists, influencers and other key stakeholders, in new and upcoming markets.
Support the global heads of Public Relations and Communications to develop and implement strategy and budget plans that support the global corporate goals.
Work closely with the Events team to launch the brand and its products in the new markets.
Coordinate with other Polestar global- and regional PR and Communications team members, and the global Brand and Marketing team, to design, develop and implement content and media strategies that represent the company’s products, services, brand, industrial operations, business plan and strategy, and senior management.
Together with the Media Relations manager, develop media relationships and maintain relationship building, targeting, pitching, sell-in, etc. with media audiences, with specific targeting in new markets.
Monitor and evaluate media coverage in order to act upon learnings and consequences, as well as prepare for crisis communications.
Completion of all planned projects by reaching targeted KPIs, within budget.
Key audiences are Polestar’s external stakeholders such as: journalists and influencers, local and national government, business partners, potential and existing customers, potential and existing employees, and trade associations.
Co-ordinate all European markets, identifying and leveraging potential communication ideas for activation in the region.
Plan and develop the product-focussed launch communication plans for new markets.
Build / develop / maintain strong working relationships with target media.
Plan and execute national press test drive events in new markets, alongside the Events team.
Drive and coordinate the global media agenda through communication activities based on Polestar’s global priorities and requirements.
Provide external communication support to Polestar executive management where necessary.
Act as a Polestar spokesperson. Co-create and develop communication plans, Q&A, press releases, etc. for planned activities, targeting relevant media groups.
Assist in managing Polestar’s external communication editorial calendar to ensure consistent flow of Polestar news and editorial opportunities.
Qualifications, Experience and Qualities
Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in communications, business administration or journalism.
10 years plus working experience in Public Relations and Communications, with at least 5 years with a large multinational corporation. Luxury/premium automotive industry working background is preferred.
Experience working with, and managing, agencies and consultants, and managing budgets.
An ability to network with colleagues, external influencers such as journalists and industry organisations, is a vital prerequisite of the job. A regular programme of visits and international travel should be expected, depending on global health circumstances.
The employee is expected to be on-call 24 hours a day to deal with urgent communications issues.
